Curious about graphic design in Japan's busy capital? Let this volume be your guide!

The Japanese capital is a unique place. With its clean streets, punctual transportation and polite service at every turn, Tokyo is more than just a well-run city. It unites cultural extremes: it is a city where the futuristic meets the traditional and tranquility meets speed.

In 2017, the Slanted team dove into Tokyo—with Renna Okubo and Ian Lynam in tow to prevent drowning—and undertook an intense examination of the Japanese capital's design scene.

With Okubo and Lynam's assistance, Slanted met with some of Tokyo's current crop of outstanding designers and artists, including &Form, Shin Akiyama, Tatsuya Ariyama, Dainippon Type Organization, Terada Hideji, Hitomi Sago Design Office, Ian Lynam Design, IDEA, KIGI, MATZDA OFFICE / USIWAKAMARU, Nakagaki Design Office, OMOMMA, PULP, Yoshihisa Shirai, TSDO, Yosuke Yamaguchi and woolen.

Tokyo contains interviews, essays, and illustrations which all complement the theme of the issue, focused on highlighting Tokyo's current creative climate.
