Includes “The Didot Style: a survey of the career of Firmin Didot,” an essay by historian Sébastien Morlighem about the achievements of French type founder and printer Firmin Didot (1764-1836). Morlighem analyzes the successive designs of Didot, from his early prototypical shapes to the late and more elaborated letterforms which won him fame. Accompanied by a photo essay, “Cities and gaze,” by photographer Hugo Deniau; and “Big Type Area,” a feature of large glyphs from the Trianon family, selected for their decorative qualities.

The Trianon typeface, designed by Loïc Sander, is an exploration based on sources from Firmin Didot's later work as well as other type from the late 19th and early 20th centuries based on the Rational or “pointed pen form” model.
