Working Proof
Working Proof brings together the work of fifteen graduate graphic design students from a course taught by Kathleen and Christopher Sleboda at the Rhode Island School of Design. The publication comes from Graduate Generative Practice, a course that foregrounds process, iteration, exploration, and research-in-progress rather than fixed or finalized outcomes. Contributions range from exploratory formal studies to more refined thesis-oriented investigations, reflecting the different stages of development across first- and second-year MFA students.
Each student's contribution takes the form of a folded 11 × 17 in. signature, creating a small four-page zine that unfolds into a verso poster. The range of outcomes reflects students engaging with a series of writing prompts, topics, formal constraints, and self-directed lines of inquiry developed throughout the course. Gathered together with a single elastic binding, the publication remains modular and open-ended, allowing individual works to be reordered, juxtaposed, and reconsidered.
