An initiative of the Swiss Federal Office of Culture, the long-running Most Beautiful Swiss Books competition aims to honor outstanding achievements in book design and promote and showcase high-quality book production.

Today, producing a book involves coordinating numerous resources and working within strict structural and economic constraints. This makes the publishing chain vulnerable, particularly for independent houses and local publishers/printers. The task at hand is to preserve and strengthen Switzerland’s publishing ecosystem while supporting cooperation beyond its borders—a continuing dialogue with European countries, but also those further afield.

Recognizing books which appeared in 2024, this catalogue of competition winners casts a spotlight on collaboration between the different professions in bookmaking: graphic design studios, publishing houses, and printers.

The jury for the 2024 competition was chaired by Sereina Rothenberger, with Mathias Clottu, Julie Peeters,, Tasheka Arceneaux-Sutton, and Marco Walser. The twenty recognized titles were selected from a pool of 362 entries.
