Posters with Purpose: In Conversation with 3 Poster Design Masters
How do posters speak to power, and who decides what gets seen, shared, or silenced? In Posters with Purpose, design educator Lisa Winstanley investigates the ethical dimensions of contemporary poster design, presenting a deeply reflective and visually provocative exploration of what it means to design with integrity.
The book brings together global voices in poster design practice to consider how visual communication can foster empathy, prompt dialogue, and catalyze action. It features in-depth interviews with three master poster designers whose practices exemplify diverse approaches to visual advocacy: Ryan Slone's typographic rebellion, Rikke Hansen 里克•汉森 community-centred methodologies, and Byoungil-Sun’s cultural symbolism and tactility.
Designed as a layered, palimpsestic object, the limited edition Posters with Purpose book invites readers not only to view the posters but also to engage with them through their materiality, context, and intent.
