Menq Enq Mer Sarere
Menq Enq Mer Sarere (We Are Our Mountains) commemorates the centenary of the Armenian Genocide (1915-2015) and pays tribute to the Armenian heritage of the authors, French sisters Camille and Anna L.
Borrowing its title from a film directed by Henrik Malian in 1969, the book is a collection of works that chant an ode to memory. Collages, photographs, and poems intertwine, as the artists seek out a new way to consider memory and remembrance. Constructed as an exquisite corpse, the book juxtaposes various references and inspirations. Magritte befriends Paradjanov, Tarkovsky mingles with Dada, Pirosmani chats with Cornell. The book lends readers a modern and creative lens to look through and glimpse the richness and power of Armenian culture. These original works shine a new light onto ‘Armenianity’ and harmonize traditional references and contemporary visuals.
