“We know what things cost but have no idea what they are worth.”
— Tony Judt, quoting Oscar Wilde
Value as a non-economic notion is one of the hardest concepts to tackle. Though immaterial, value is one of the core ideas that shapes society, influences hearts and minds, yet it continually defies easy definition. In this volume, nine alternative rules of value creation are presented—different approaches that may inspire readers to regain personal power, harness and share energy and creativity, face uncertainty, and liberate time.
Anthologizing the work of philosophers, scientists, historians, architects, and economists including Walter Benjamin, Franco “Bifo” Berardi, Michel de Certeau, Anthony Huberman, Charles Jencks, Siegfried Kracauer, Jan Ritsema, Viktor Shklovsky and Jan Verwoert, Facing Value presents alternative visions of value that interrogate the scope and language of the current value system. Includes three artist contributions by Atelier Van Lieshout, Reto Pulfer, and Navid Nuur.
