Draw Down discovered Baku’s work while visiting Tokyo in 2025. Born in Sapporo in 1974, Maeda is an illustrator and artist whose work moves between two- and three-dimensional forms. His recurring Eye of Fire characters are distinguished by their burning yellow eyes and their ability to inhabit and transform different figures and objects. For Heavy Reading, Maeda turns that unmistakable gaze toward one of our favorite subjects: books.
