The second volume of the series "Visual Archives" is dedicated to the largely unknown history of Bobst Graphic`s photo set pioneers.

In the early 1970s this Swiss packaging company, seeking to combine new technology with the high-tech capabilities of computing, launched its line of phototypesetting machines. These would revolutionize the quality of typography. Through the efforts of leading Swiss designers, various font families were developed for the new technique.

However, five years after its launch, Bobst Graphic ran into finanical difficulties and was forced to divest all of its operations and personnel to the US company Autologic. Within two years, the entire business had relocated to the United States.

Bobst Graphic’s pioneering role in the development of phototypesetting has never been included in the rich history of Swiss graphic and font design. In this volume, designer and author Giliane Cachin documents and shares the fascinating story through first-hand accounts and personal interviews.
