People measure things everyday: precisely, imprecisely and unconsciously, whether they have a scale in hand or not. This new magazine explores one unit at a time (i.e.: length, temperature, luminosity) through stories of cultural, historical and societal implications that measurements have on our daily lives. The purpose of the magazine is to highlight a side of technology that is less about breakthrough or innovation, but more about the people who measure things daily.

Issue 01 (Length) explores the awkward teen years of the measuring units we use today, and the fine tuning done over thousands of years, “perfected" (depending on how you define perfect) into the measuring standards of today— and how we collectively misuse them.

Consider that the word thermometer began to circulate a century and a half before the invention of the meter. Even if this inaugural issue is all about length, meter (metron in Greek – μέτρον) first meant “to measure”, and only after became a dimension.

Shock yourself at the incredibly recent imprecision of things we consider to be done at the highest caliber since time immemorial, such as flight and marathon record setting. Look up at the moon and know that you are just one thumb, or two clicks away, to finding out how far it is from you.
