IDEA #398 — Ryoji Tanaka / Illuminating Graphics

Regular price $48.00

IDEA #398 is a special issue focused on the work of Japanese designer Ryoji Tanaka. Tanaka, who runs Semitransparent Design, began his career as a web designer in the early 2000s, as online media began to permeate society. His practice weaves together a diverse array of designs using computers and technology.

In this issue, Ryoji Tanaka's works are categorized by form (graphic design, web design, installation art, exhibition planning) and arranged chronologically by category. Tanaka himself curated the works included in this volume.

Includes an essay by Yasuhito Nagara; an interview of Tanaka by Shunya Hagiwara; and a round table between T Keiichiro Shibuya, Kenshu Shintsubo, and Tanaka. Other sections include an overview of the design of modular synthesizers, and an article, "The Context of Critique," by Ian Lynam.

IDEA is Japan's leading graphic design magazine. Each issue offers insight into international and Japanese designers and their work through historical analysis, criticism, and examples of projects. In print since 1953, IDEA is a critical forum for design criticism in Asia.
