Entrepreneurial initiative, social openness, and cultural diversity meant that Milan before—and even more so after—the Second World War was predestined to develop an effervescent cultural climate that was shaped in a crucial way by graphic designers from Switzerland.

Supplied with a type of education that was not available in Italy at the time, Swiss graphic artists, many graduates of the famous Kunstgewerbeschule Zürich, brought an optimistic and undogmatic attitude to their undertakings in Italy. This transalpine dialogue became a decisive moment for the history of design.

The publication includes such icons of the history of poster design as Max Huber and Walter Ballmer.
