The Most Beautiful Swiss Books 2014
More than 400 books were submitted to the annual “Most Beautiful Swiss Books of the Year” competition in 2014, from which were selected the seventeen most outstanding titles. In judging the submissions to the competition, the jury took into account each book's overall concept, graphic design and typography, paying particular attention to innovation and originality. Further considered criteria include the quality of the printing and the cover, the binding and the materials used.
Studio NOI, commissioned to design the catalogue, chose to approach each of the selected titles from different angles, in terms of both form and content, and a host of photographers were invited to make portraits of the books as objects and inspiration. In addition, the catalogue includes a brief overview of each distinguished book, the jury reports, and an interview with jury members discussing the considerations behind the selections. Through conversations with the individuals involved in making these works, the catalogue delves into the collaboration between designers, authors, and publishers.
In 2014, the jury members were Manuel Krebs, Géraldine Beck, David Bennewith, Markus Dressen, and Kurt Eckert.
