Graphic 24: Amsterdam
Issue 24 of Graphic covers the art and design scene in Amsterdam. Published in Seoul, Korea, each issue is dedicated to reporting about graphic design from an alternative perspective, focusing on a different theme. This issue comes with a separate city map that identifies book stores, cultural sites, design studios and more.
The volume, published almost a decade ago, is subjective time capsule which gives a voice to the creativity of individuals working in the city. Coverage ranges from foreign designers and research to the 1960s Provo movement to the aspirations of young designers dealing with the 21st century's economic reality. This issues asks: how culture and design can participate in a debate about a city? How can design be subversive and propose alternative uses/views on objects, infrastructure, and local politics?
