On/Off/In/Between: The Body in Graphic Design

Regular price $64.00

On/Off/In/Between: The Body in Graphic Design emerges from designer Chen Luo's appreciation of bodies and her beliefs about how graphic design creates community and her curiosity about what sensations can be embodied in graphic design.

This volume presents Luo's body of work, a systematic series of experiments that draws together research, inquiry, and projects in order to defamiliarize the normative interactions between body gestures and tangible objects of graphic design. By challenging canonical interactions and critiquing historical ideas of how the body, proportion, and movement have been interpreted, Luo's work proposes and demonstrates a new interplay of activities and interrogative exercises.

This collection of work is meant to facilitate unlearning habitual patterns and utilizing experimental tools to examine boundaries between bodies and prints, typography and space, the individual and the collective.

Includes case studies, documentation and descriptions along with interviews of designers Zak Jensen, Jinu Hong, and Tereza Ruller (The Rodina).
