Initially founded in 2016 in Los Angeles as an unaccredited postgraduate workshop and evolving public online repository of educational resources built around the tools, processes, histories, and discourses of typography and critical art-making, the Southland Institute is dedicated to exploring, identifying, and implementing meaningful, affordable, sustainable alternatives to higher education in art and design in the United States.
