Dear Blurb
A test book researched and produced by graphic design students and Professor Frank Philippin at Hochschule Darmstadt, Germany, during an intensive two-day workshop with graphic designer James Goggin (Practise) in 2008.
First made to test the print-on-demand capabilities of lulu.com and bod.de, the book's intention is to act as a calibration document for testing color, pattern, format, texture and typography. Exercises in color profile (Adobe RGB/sRGB/CMYK/Greyscale), halftoning, point size, line, geometry, skin tone, color texture, cropping and print finishing provide useful data for designers and self-publishers to judge the possibilities and quality of online print-on-demand—specifically Blurb, with this edition.
A decade after it was first produced, this book remains a resource and reference for anyone researching the capabilities and possibilities of digital on-demand printing, as well as a distinct and functional collective artist book.
