Test Press: 20 Years of Student Publications, 1999-2019
A catalog for the 2019 exhibition of student publications from the archive of Dutch designer, collector, and teacher Henk Groenendijk.
Produced by students of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, Amsterdam, over the past twenty years, Groenendijk's collection is a byproduct of many years of teaching, and balances on the fine line between the classroom and the world beyond.
The work highlights a transition from what in the late 90s was referred to as “Dutch Design,” an increasingly international and open direction removed from an imposed national style. Made up of almost 500 publications (many produced uniquely or in small print runs), the collection reflects a large variety of methods, aesthetics, and topics—including language, typography, and contemporary visual culture.
