The City Is Ours #6: Involuntary Sculptures
Inspired by the ideas of Marcel Duchamp and Akasegawa Genpei, this final issue of The City is Ours series explores the concept of “involuntary sculptures.” These are objects and structures in our cities, not created by artists, but emerging from everyday interactions and casual arrangements.
By recognizing and appreciating these objects, we can shift our perception, uncovering unexpected beauty and meaning in even the most familiar urban landscapes. What hidden masterpieces will you discover today?
Like other titles in the series by Finland's Other Editions, Issue #6 invites readers to explore their city, town or street with more curious eyes—one detail at a time. Each issue includes a photo essay focused on a specific detail of a street scape, as well as works by international artists, photographers and observers. The images are combined with clear and simple language to inspire readers to observe the city as they never have seen it before.
Contributors include An Devroe, Cris Bartels, Dean Garlick, Ed Ruscha, Francis Mariani, Helmut Smits, Joost Markerink, Kiyoshi Kusumi, Klara Liden, Mathieu Tremblin, Nigel Ball, Octavi Serra, Paul Sutton, Ronald Nijhof, Sara Graham, Sebastian Jung, Steven Laurie, and Valentin Fougeray.
