A beautiful book about tattoo legend Bernie Luther. Born in 1965 in Vienna, Austria, Luther built his first tattoo machine as a 16-year-old punk and has been tattooing ever since. By the mid-1980s, tattooing became both a passion and a means to travel, taking him across Europe before he opened his studio, Tattoo Demon, in 1987. His journeys extended to the United States at the close of the decade and later to Bali, where he co-owned a shop for ten years starting in 1994.

Over four decades, Bernie has amassed countless awards from international conventions, while his studio now stands as Vienna’s oldest operating tattoo shop. A prolific artist, his work spans tattoos, paintings, photographs, and gig posters.

Marking 40 years of tattooing, Tattoo Demon brings together a curated selection of Bernie’s output, documenting the grit, dedication, and artistry of one of tattooing’s enduring figures.
