The Invisible / Barbara Stauffacher Solomon

Regular price $40.00

The Invisible by Barbara Stauffacher Solomon is a series of lyrical essays and graphic compositions that explore themes of nothingness, propaganda, homogeneity, and the concept of invisibility.

Drawing from her seven-decade career as both a designer (concealing), and an artist (revealing), Solomon reflects on how these themes have shaped her work and her understanding of the world. Revisiting this topic five years after her initial exploration, published in 2018 as Making the Invisible Visible, Solomon was spurred by her own awareness of mortality and the inevitability of becoming invisible.

Known for inventing Supergraphics, large-scale graphic shapes and text applied inside and outside of architecture, Solomon’s work spanned across art, design, and landscape architecture, with her contributions represented in the permanent collections of MoMA, LACMA, The Walker Art Center, and more.

Barbara Stauffacher Solomon passed away in 2024, leaving behind a legacy that continues to influence the fields of design and art. This project was made possible through the work of Nellie King Solomon, Gabriel Garza, and Chris Grunder.
