A retrospective of Swedish designer Curt Dahlén's career in graphic design.

By Curt Dahlén and Stefan Krantz

In 1964, Curt Dahlén started his design studio in Gothenburg, Sweden. Dahlén's design studio soon was carrying out identity work for industrial companies such as ESAB, Volvo Trucks, Mölnlycke and SKF, pioneering a style for Swedish companies that would become world-renowned. His work defines an epoch in Swedish graphic design history.

This volume presents visual standards and manuals, logos, trademarks, and signage for these leading Swedish corporations.

The documentation traces Dahlén's early years working in advertising in the 1950s, where he was introduced to a corporate design philosophy that emphasized "rationalizing and systemizing"—to later projects, including collaborations with longtime Volvo chairman PG Gyllenhammer, trips to Japan, and his manifesto on corporate design.
