Counter Fictional Design / Ju Hyun Lee & Ludovic Burel
This publication contains five conference performances, written in French and English, by the Franco-Korean duo of Ju Hyun Lee and Ludovic Burel. Known for work that combines publications, performances, and installations, the artist-researchers present a critical examination of the status of design within the KVM (alternately the Korean Vitra Museum, Korean Vocal Museum, Korean Vernacular Museum, etc.). The term “counter fictional design” applies equally to objects and behaviors, in both the cultural and managerial spheres. Interested in post-colonial issues, Lee and Burel pursue a self-described approach of mimicry and sly civility. Their work in this volume weaves together Foucault, office-yoga, diagrammatic analysis, and solutions for “the proletariat of the contemporary office.”
In 2012, Ju Hyun Lee, a performance artist, and Ludovic Burel, artist and publisher, established the KVM (a post-identity acronym that varies with their joint projects) to focus on the critique of design.
