Regular price $50.00

Overlap/Dissolve chronicles the collaborative graphic design practice of Nancy Skolos and Thomas Wedell, designers who fuse type and image, and two-and three-dimensional spaces, to generate a multitude of combinations and transformations.

Prototypes, iterations, and studio set-ups highlight the process behind the finished work, which unfolds by decade from the 1980s to the 2020s. Enlarged half-page vertical poster details create the illusion of overlap by eclipsing images that appear in full on the neighboring spread, reinforcing the progression of projects as one dissolves into the next.

Long-time influential designers, educators, and 2017 AIGA medalists, Skolos-Wedell’s work has been widely exhibited and published in the US and internationally. Together, the pair have seamlessly blurred the boundaries between graphic design, photography, and typography.

Texts include the essay “Reflected Realities,” by Andrew Blauvelt; “An Introduction in Five Parts: Modernism and Technology, 2+3 Dimensions, Processes and Materials, Collage and Composition, and Type and Image,” and interviews with each other that provide a direct view into their 40-year partnership and practice.
