Palette 03 - Gold & Silver: New Metallic Graphics
Gold and silver incite a peculiar curiosity in humans, in part because of their mesmerizing glares. Unlike colors perceivable under normal light, metallics add luster to surfaces as they reflect even in the dimmest light.
The historical uses of precious metals such as gold, silver, and bronze have endowed these shiny tones with additional concepts—such as divinity, wealth and brilliance.
Advanced techniques and cheaper production costs today, however, require designers use metallic tones with greater sensitivity.
This volume is the third in Victionary’s color-themed series PALETTE; this volume focuses on the dynamic play of metallic ink and materials in graphic design.
Featuring a vast collection of projects, including direct mail pieces, stationery, catalogs, events, corporate identities, and more, Gold & Silver presents how designers are capturing the essence of valued tradition or simply using the glittery appeal of gold, silver and copper tones. Techniques include gilding, pure gold plating, metallic coatings, and anodizing are showcased.
