Viral Bodies investigates the changing concepts of gender and identity norms in the digital space, opening up a discussion with multiple veins of speculation and corresponding real-world implications. An introductory piece by Reba Maybury (editor, writer, and dominatrix) kicks off the issue and is followed by over twenty contributors exploring social conventions, intimate moments, and experiences of pain, love, hate, and fear. They delve into authenticity in the non-human sphere; they code accidental bigotry on the internet.

Science fiction writer Alan Dean Foster blurs the lines of reality, transmitting what is real and what not in a dystopian society. Political art critic Penny Rafferty unravels the minds of tech giants while artistic researcher Addie Wagenknecht questions the diffusing boundary between virtual technology and working bodies in reality.

This third issue includes contributions from Reba Maybury, Dario Alva, Josefin Arnell, Jonathan Castro, Lois Cohen, Jesse Darling, Vita Evangelista, Alan Dean Foster, Gaika, Jahmal B Golden, Sophie Hardeman, Manique Hendricks, Gui Machiavelli, Mary Maggic, Simone C.Niquille, Norman Orro, Clara Pacotte, Pinar & Viola, Penny Rafferty, Addie Wagenknecht, Melek Zertal, Lil Miquela, and Indiana Roma Voss.

NXS is a research platform initiated by the Amsterdam based design studio Goys & Birls as well as an experimental printed publication, where each contributor comments and reflects on a previous contribution. Published biannually, NXS experiments with innovative content and brings together different points of view. A diverse selection of upcoming or established theorists and practitioners allows NXS to define an initial position and interlace articles, essays, interviews and artistic works which refer to each other. Aiming to explore the emotional and sensual side of hardware, software, and algorithms, that normally have been assessed by their functionality, aesthetics, and ethics, NXS invites artists, theorists, poets, and off-context cultural participators to capture the current emotional status of networked society and hardware-enhanced relationships.
